Water Levels
Many different things influence water levels in Megunticook Lake, Norton Pond, and other areas of the watershed, including the intensity, duration, and frequency of precipitation; evaporation; plant uptake; and the management of dams along the Megunticook River. The Town of Camden owns and operates the following dams:
East and West Dams help control the water levels in Megunticook Lake and Norton Pond
Seabright Dam helps control water levels in the Megunticook River impoundment located immediately upstream
Montgomery Dam helps control water levels in the Mill Pond at Camden Harbor
The Town of Camden currently manages the water levels and dams in accordance with an established policy that you can download below.
The Town of Camden also updates water level and dam operational information on a near daily basis through a tool called “Crowdwater”. You can check the latest operational info below. Note that this tool is managed by the Town of Camden and any questions or issues should be directed towards the Town.
With funding provided by the Town of Camden, the Megunticook Watershed Association installed water level gauges at the East Dam, Seabright Dam, and Montgomery Dam in late Summer 2023. Current water levels are uploaded via solar powered base stations. You can view the data in real-time via the buttons below.
